Austin Peay freshman football player Jeremiah Collins died Friday night in a car crash in Clarksville, Tennessee. According to the officials, Collins was driving a pickup truck that flipped multiple times after he lost control while exiting a highway. Collins was given immediate medical attention at the crash site but was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Austin Peay coach Scotty Walden expressed his grief over the loss of Jeremiah Collins, describing him as an outstanding young man who brought positivity and energy every day. Walden extended his condolences to the Collins family and offered prayers for their tragic loss.
The police investigation revealed that Collins was speeding at the time of the accident, but there were no signs of driver impairment. Jeremiah Collins was only 18 years old.
Austin Peay athletic director Gerald Harrison shared his sympathies for the Collins family and assured that the university would provide support to his friends, family, and teammates during this difficult time.
Jeremiah Collins, a member of Austin Peay’s 2023 signing class, recently graduated from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was part of the winning team that secured a state championship in 2022. Austin Peay University stated that there will be no further comments regarding Collins’ death at this time.
