Lucas Giolito had a rough outing in his second start with the Los Angeles Angels after being traded from the Chicago White Sox. Against the Atlanta Braves, Giolito gave up a career-high nine earned runs along with eight hits and three walks. He also allowed three home runs hit by Ronald Acuña Jr., Austin Riley, and Matt Olson. In the fourth inning, Giolito was replaced by fellow right-hander Jaime Barria.
Earlier, in his debut game with the Angels against the Toronto Blue Jays, Giolito gave up three runs in 5 ⅓ innings, resulting in a 4-1 loss for the team.
The Angels made several moves at the trade deadline, acquiring Giolito and Reynaldo López from the White Sox in exchange for minor-league catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Ky Bush. In addition, they also acquired C.J. Cron, Randal Grichuk, and Dominic Leone to improve their playoff chances. Despite these moves, the Angels are currently three games behind the final American League wild-card spot.
