During the Washington Open, Coco Gauff was ready to take action when a spectator had a medical episode. After her victory over Belinda Bencic, Gauff stressed the importance of knowing CPR.

The match was briefly halted when a fan fell ill, and the medical staff quickly provided assistance. The match then resumed, as reported by Reuters.

After the match, Gauff spoke with reporters and revealed that she was prepared to administer CPR if necessary. She recently underwent CPR training and encouraged others to do the same.

Gauff mentioned that she asked the referee if the situation was cardiac-related. Although she recognized that there were more qualified individuals available, the referee confirmed that it was not cardiac-related, putting Gauff at ease. However, Gauff emphasized the importance of CPR training for everyone in the stadium.

Gauff explained that her understanding of the need for CPR training stemmed from her father performing CPR on someone who unfortunately passed away. This experience taught her the importance of being prepared to take life-saving action.

This incident highlights the growing support for CPR training among famous athletes. Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, for example, recently promoted CPR and AED training during a tour in Cincinnati.
