The Baltimore Orioles are promoting their top prospect, shortstop Jackson Holliday, from Double-A to Triple-A, according to MASN’s Steve Melewski. This will be Holliday’s fourth level that he’s played at in 2023. At just 19 years old, Holliday has had an impressive season, starting in the Low-A Carolina League, moving to High-A, and then Double-A. Throughout these levels, he has maintained a batting line of .333/.451/.517 with 45 extra-base hits, 85 walks, and 23 stolen bases in 107 games. Despite being significantly younger than his peers, Holliday put up a line of .338/.421/.507 in 36 games for Double-A Bowie, leading to his promotion.
In June, R.J. Anderson ranked Holliday as the top prospect in baseball. Holliday has shown great potential both offensively and defensively, with the ability to hit for average and power and solid middle-infield skills. The Orioles have even had him cross-trained at second base to provide additional versatility. Holliday’s performance has been so impressive that one talent evaluator mentioned they would be willing to trade their team’s two best prospects just to acquire him. Drafted as the overall top pick in the 2022 draft out of Stillwater High School in Oklahoma, Holliday’s future seems bright, and he may make his MLB debut in the early stages of the 2024 season.
The Orioles, who are currently in first place, already have a talented roster of young players, and Holliday’s promotion only strengthens their long-term prospects.
