A documentary about Kansas City legend George Brett will be aired on MLB Network in December. Titled “MLB Network Presents: Brett,” the documentary marks the 50th anniversary of Brett’s debut, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Pine Tar Incident and the 30th anniversary of his retirement.
The film explores various aspects of Brett’s life and career, including his strong connection to Kansas City, his relationship with his father, his outstanding performance in the 1980 season, the Royals’ rivalry with the Yankees, and his relentless pursuit of excellence.
During his 21-year career, all with the Royals, Brett achieved remarkable success. He was a 13-time All-Star, a Gold Glover, a three-time Silver Slugger, a World Series champion, an ALCS MVP, and an MVP. With a career batting average of .305, Brett won three batting titles and led the league in hits three times. His 1980 MVP season, in which he hit .390, is particularly noteworthy.
A well-known character, Brett is remembered for the infamous Pine Tar Incident. One interesting fact is that the game was resumed after Kansas City appealed the initial decision, resulting in a win for the Royals.
