The Golden State Warriors’ starting lineup for the upcoming season may have four stone-cold Hall of Fame locks. However, the downside is that all four players are at least 33 years old and have a history of injuries. Therefore, the team and its fans should be prepared for occasional bumps and bruises that may keep their stars out of action during the season.
Unfortunately, an injury has already occurred, as Draymond Green recently sprained his left ankle during a pickup game. Jason Dumas of KRON4 first reported the injury, which was later confirmed by Green himself to Marc J. Spears of Andscape. Green expects to miss at least a month due to the injury but is relieved that it’s not more serious and is happy with the progress of his ankle.
If the four-to-six week timetable holds true, Green should be back on the court in early-to-mid November, which means he will miss at least the first four games of the Warriors’ regular-season schedule. More information should be available at Golden State’s media day on Monday.
Last season, Green played 73 games after recovering from a back injury and had a solid performance. He earned a second team All-Defensive selection, led the team in assists, and had his highest scoring average since 2017-18.
Despite rumors of a potential change of scenery during unrestricted free agency, Green decided to stay with the Warriors by agreeing to a four-year, $100 million deal. Coach Steve Kerr expressed his excitement to have Green back, highlighting his crucial role in the team’s success over the past decade.
While an injury before the official start of training camp is not ideal for the Warriors as they incorporate Chris Paul into the lineup, the organization is taking a long-term approach to the season with the goal of having everyone healthy and productive for the playoffs.
