Week 6 College Football Odds: Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame Favored in Ranked Matchups

The first month of the 2023 college football season has been eventful, and October is expected to bring more clarity in the ongoing College Football Playoff race. Week 6 will feature four AP Top 25 matchups, with the highlight being the annual Red River Rivalry game between undefeated No. 3 Texas and No. 12 Oklahoma. It is the first time these two rivals have met while both being undefeated since 2011.

Another notable matchup is between top-ranked Georgia and No. 20 Kentucky, both with a 5-0 record. This game marks Georgia’s first meeting with a ranked opponent this season. Two other ranked matchups include No. 21 Missouri hosting No. 23 LSU, and No. 25 Louisville facing No. 10 Notre Dame in ACC territory.

Betting lines for these games and other Week 6 matchups have been released. Let’s take a closer look at the odds provided by the oddsmakers.

Odds via SportsLine consensus

No. 12 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Texas (-5.5), Dallas: The Red River Rivalry is always a highly anticipated game in college football. This year’s matchup could potentially serve as a preview of the Big 12 Championship Game. Both Oklahoma and Texas are the only undefeated teams in the Big 12 and the only ranked schools in the conference. The winner of this game will emerge as the front-runner in the Big 12 and will still be in the playoff conversation. However, the loser will likely face a tough road to the playoff, as no two-loss team has ever made it to the playoff.

No. 20 Kentucky at No. 1 Georgia (-15): Georgia, the two-time reigning national champion, has had some close games this season despite their undefeated record. Kentucky will be a challenging opponent, especially after their impressive win against Florida in Week 5. Georgia remains the favorite in this matchup, but they should not underestimate the Wildcats.

No. 23 LSU (-6.5) at No. 21 Missouri: LSU has had a disappointing season so far, with two losses already. Missouri, on the other hand, has had a strong start, including a win against Kansas State. LSU’s defense has struggled, allowing high yardage in their recent games. Missouri’s quarterback, Brady Cook, has been performing well, adding another challenge for LSU.

No. 10 Notre Dame (-6.5) at No. 25 Louisville: Notre Dame has faced tough competition in recent weeks, and this game against Louisville will be no different. Louisville, under coach Jeff Brohm, has remained undefeated this season. Although the teams are statistically similar, Notre Dame’s experience against ranked opponents gives them the edge as the favorite in this matchup.

No. 11 Alabama (-3.5) at Texas A&M: After a slow start, Alabama has gained momentum with two consecutive wins. However, they will face a tough Texas A&M team that has caused problems for them in the past. Texas A&M has the potential to upset the Crimson Tide and secure a strong overall record for the season.
