Bold Predictions for NHL 2023-24: Bruins Fail to Qualify for Playoffs, Senators Make Significant Strides

The upcoming 2023-24 NHL season is expected to bring several surprises and changes. With every team starting fresh, any team could see a major turnaround from the previous season. Some bold predictions have been made, including teams that might not make the playoffs, teams that could make a deep Stanley Cup run, and players who could shine.

One prediction is that the Boston Bruins may miss the playoffs. This comes after their impressive regular season in 2022-23, where they accumulated an NHL-record 135 points but were eliminated early in the playoffs. The team has faced retirements of key players and hasn’t made significant additions to fill the gaps, making it possible for them to miss the postseason.

Another prediction is that the Pittsburgh Penguins will miss the playoffs again. Despite their general manager’s efforts to make the team competitive in the Metro Division, the Penguins’ aging roster and tough competition in the Eastern Conference might hinder their chances of making the playoffs. Teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, and New York Rangers are expected to be strong contenders.

On a positive note, the Buffalo Sabres are predicted to end their postseason drought. After narrowly missing the playoffs in the previous season, the team possesses a talented core of players, including goal scorer Tage Thompson, and promising defensemen like Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power. If the goaltending proves solid, the Sabres have a chance to make the playoffs.

The Ottawa Senators are also expected to make significant strides in the 2023-24 season, potentially even winning a playoff series. With a young and talented roster, led by players like Tim Stützle and Brady Tkachuk, the Senators have the potential to surprise and thrive in the postseason. Strong goaltending and support from star defensemen will be crucial for their success.

Lastly, it is predicted that Jacob Markstrom, the goaltender for the Calgary Flames, will have a bounce-back season and perform at a Vezina Trophy-caliber level. Despite a rough previous season, Markstrom has shown his elite skills in the past and with a more familiar roster, he is expected to regain his form. Additionally, Timo Meier of the New Jersey Devils is predicted to win the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy for most goals in the season. With his impressive performance in the previous season and a supportive roster, Meier has the potential to reach new heights in goal scoring.
