In the Warriors’ preseason opener, Chris Paul quickly showed why he was acquired by the team’s general manager, Mike Dunleavy Jr. In the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Paul and Stephen Curry demonstrated their ability to create confusion and make plays together.
During the second quarter, Paul set a ball screen for Curry, but instead of making contact with Taurean Prince, Curry slipped the screen and hit a 3-pointer. This play exemplified the Warriors’ offensive strategy of making defenses choose between guarding Paul or Curry, both exceptional players in their own right.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr praised Paul’s understanding of the game and his ability to read the situation. He also mentioned Paul’s contribution to the team’s late-clock offense, an area where the Warriors struggled last season.
In a game against the Lakers, Paul demonstrated his ability to make plays in such situations. He called for a ball screen from Kevon Looney, drove into the lane, and made a floater with seconds left on the shot clock. This showcased his skills and reliability in clutch moments.
Curry described his partnership with Paul as seamless, and their chemistry was evident on the court. As they continue to play together and mentor the younger players on the team, their backcourt duo is expected to become even more dominant.
Jonathan Kuminga, who had an impressive performance with 24 points, praised Paul for making his life easier and helping him understand the game better.
