Regardless of how France’s Kylian Mbappe performs on international duty against both the Netherlands and Scotland during the October break, the Paris Saint-Germain striker has now gone a full month without scoring a goal for his club. Mbappe last scored in the UEFA Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund, and by the time PSG plays RC Strasbourg Alsace later this month, it will be one month since his last goal.

The French superstar failed to score against Olympique de Marseille, Clermont Foot 63, Newcastle United, and Stade Rennais, although his goals were not required for PSG’s 3-1 victory on Sunday. Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and Randal Kolo Muani contributed goals for PSG while Amine Gouiri scored for Stade Rennais. Despite Mbappe’s goalless streak, PSG’s performance was exactly what coach Luis Enrique needed after their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Champions League.
Luis Enrique praised Mbappe’s performance despite his failure to score, highlighting his contributions in passing, creating chances, and supporting the team both in attack and defense.
PSG’s victory against Rennes was significant as Rennes had won their previous two matches against PSG without conceding a goal. The victory also ended one of the only two remaining unbeaten records in the French top flight. Mbappe’s barren run continues, primarily due to his lower fitness levels compared to his teammates, exacerbated by a recent ankle injury. Playing a mix of competitive and friendly matches with the French national team during the international break may help Mbappe regain his scoring touch and catch up with his teammates in terms of physical readiness.
PSG faces important upcoming matches against Milan and Stade Brestois 29, and Mbappe will hope to be back in form and scoring by then. Failure to do so may result in scrutiny and questions about PSG’s attacking coherence. Additionally, the return of Marco Asensio post-October break increases competition for places in the attack. PSG’s inconsistent performance in front of goal remains a concern, and the all-French attacking unit needs to step up to avoid accommodating underperforming players.
