The Winnipeg Jets have signed goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and forward Mark Scheifele to seven-year contract extensions worth $59.5 million each. The contracts will begin in the 2024-25 season and have an average annual value of $8.5 million. Both Hellebuyck and Scheifele were set to become unrestricted free agents after the 2023-24 season.
Hellebuyck is coming off a strong season with a 37-25-2 record, a 2.49 goals-against average, and a .920 save percentage. He was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top goaltender. Hellebuyck, 30, was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft and holds several franchise and league records for goaltenders.
Scheifele, on the other hand, had a career-high 42 goals and 26 assists in the previous season. He leads the Jets in goals, playoff goals, and regular-season game-winning goals, and ranks second in points and assists. The 30-year-old forward was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft and has represented the team in two All-Star Games.
