Ben Simmons has had a challenging past two seasons, sitting out the 2021-22 season due to a trade request and a back injury, and then underperforming in 42 appearances for the Brooklyn Nets last season. However, in Monday’s preseason opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, Simmons showed signs of improvement.
While playing 14 minutes, Simmons attempted four free throws, matching the number he had attempted in his previous seven games. This small victory indicates a strong start for Simmons, who seemed to have lost his former elite athleticism and struggled at the line in the past.
In addition to his improved free throw shooting, Simmons displayed aggression on the court. He made a layup while getting fouled and showcased his signature transition speed with an authoritative dunk.
The Brooklyn Nets are relying on Simmons to elevate their team. He started as the point guard in Monday’s game and ran the team’s offense. Despite some weaknesses in their shooting, the Nets’ starting lineup led by Simmons should excel on defense and in fast breaks. If Simmons continues to perform at this level, the Nets have the potential to be a competitive team this season.
