Chicago Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard wasted no time scoring his first NHL goal. In just his second game, Bedard found the back of the net during the opening period against the Boston Bruins. After an initial shot that was saved by Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark, Bedard persisted and managed to score on the wraparound.
Bedard also had a point in Tuesday’s game, assisting Ryan Donato’s goal. He kept the puck in the offensive zone, earning a secondary assist. With this point, Bedard became the fifth-youngest player to record a point in his NHL debut at 18 years, 85 days. The youngest player to achieve this feat was Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers at 18 years, 31 days on Oct. 3, 2013.
Bedard had an impressive preseason performance for the Blackhawks, tallying five points in four games. As the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Bedard has high expectations placed on him. He has been compared to star players like Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid. In the Western Hockey League (WHL), Bedard scored an astonishing 143 points, becoming the first WHL player to surpass 140 points since 1995-96.
In the WHL playoffs, Bedard was a force, recording 10 goals and 10 assists in seven games after the Pats were eliminated in the opening round.
