Draymond Green is confident that his Golden State Warriors are not on the decline, despite Charles Barkley’s comments during the team’s loss to the Phoenix Suns on opening night. Barkley implied that the Warriors’ era of success might be coming to an end. However, Green had the opportunity to address Barkley directly on “The Steam Room” podcast and fired back at him.
Green pointed out that he didn’t appreciate Barkley’s use of the word “cooked” to describe the Warriors. He jokingly suggested that Barkley’s choice of words made it sound like the team was as old as Barkley was when he played for the Houston Rockets.
While acknowledging that the Warriors are indeed an older team, Green highlighted the valuable experience that comes with age. He firmly believes that as long as the core players remain healthy, the Warriors are capable of winning another NBA championship.
“We’re definitely getting older, there’s no denying that. But that hasn’t stopped us from winning,” Green stated.
Steph Curry (35), Klay Thompson (33), and Green (33) are all above the age of 30. However, it’s worth noting that they’re only a few seasons removed from their last championship and have since secured four consecutive victories following their opening-night defeat to the Phoenix Suns.
Green also took satisfaction in the fact that two of their recent wins were against the Sacramento Kings, especially because Barkley had previously argued that the Warriors would be the worst NBA team in California this season. It seems like Barkley’s prediction may have been premature.
