Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be without star midfielder Casemiro for several weeks due to a hamstring injury. Casemiro was taken off at halftime in the team’s 3-0 loss to Newcastle in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
The club did not provide further details on the strain that will sideline Casemiro for “a number of weeks.” However, this announcement suggests that the 31-year-old will not play in the team’s upcoming three games before the international break later this month. Ten Hag will hope that Casemiro recovers in time for important fixtures at the end of November, including matches against Everton and Newcastle as well as a Champions League game against Galatasaray.

Since joining Manchester United from Real Madrid last season, Casemiro has become an important player for the team. However, his recent performances have been subpar, contributing to the team’s poor form. Despite this, Ten Hag would undoubtedly prefer to have Casemiro in his squad as the pressure mounts on the manager. United have suffered back-to-back 3-0 home defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle, and currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, eight points off the top four. The absence of one of their key players at such a critical point in the season is unfortunate for the club.
Ten Hag does have a natural replacement in Sofyan Amrabat, who is on loan from Fiorentina. However, Amrabat has not performed at the same level as he did during the 2022 World Cup.
