The Minnesota Wild have strengthened their defense by acquiring defenseman Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning. They traded a 2025 seventh-round pick for the 33-year-old, who brings experience and physicality to the team.
Bogosian, a 16-year NHL veteran, has spent four of the last five seasons with the Lightning, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 2020. Despite being a healthy scratch for most of Tampa’s games this season, he is expected to play a depth role in Minnesota alongside Jonas Brodin, Brock Faber, and Jacob Middleton.
General manager Bill Guerin’s decision to acquire Bogosian comes after the team traded 23-year-old Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks. With captain Jared Spurgeon on LTIR, the Wild have struggled defensively, allowing 2.68 xGA/60 at five-on-five. They hope Bogosian can help stabilize the defense until Spurgeon returns.
