With Thanksgiving just two days away, it’s possible that the news is slowing down as the holiday approaches. The Padres have hired Mike Shildt as manager, and there are still many free agents available, but not much is rumoured at the moment.

After signing free agent starting pitcher Lance Lynn yesterday, the Cardinals have continued to strengthen their rotation by signing free agent pitcher Kyle Gibson, reports Bob Nightengale. The deal is reportedly for one year and $12 million, per Jesse Rogers, and has an option for 2025.

Gibson, 36, had a 4.73 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 157 strikeouts in 192 innings last season. He led the AL in hits allowed, but made all 33 of his scheduled starts and pitched over 190 innings for the third time in his career.

The Cardinals had the 26th rotation ERA in the majors last season at 5.08, and it was known that they would be looking for multiple starting pitchers in the offseason. It’s likely that the team is not done making moves, but currently, they have added Lynn and Gibson. However, both pitchers had a subpar performance in 2023 and are over 35 years old.

The Cardinals finished last in the NL Central last season with a record of 71-91.
