The Red Wings have acquired Alex DeBrincat in a trade with the Senators. The trade involved sending Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick to Ottawa. DeBrincat, who was a restricted free agent, has signed a four-year, $31.5 million contract extension with Detroit.

DeBrincat, a native of Farmington Hills, Mich., had an impressive season with the Senators, recording 66 points in 82 games. This was his first season with Ottawa after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in July 2022. Following the 2022-23 season, DeBrincat stated that he did not plan to sign an extension with the Senators.

The 25-year-old forward was drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. Throughout his six seasons in the league, DeBrincat has accumulated 373 points in 450 games.

Dominik Kubalik is the key player going to Ottawa in this trade. He had a solid season with the Red Wings, tallying 20 goals and 25 assists in 81 games. Kubalik has one year remaining on his two-year, $5 million deal with Detroit.

Kubalik was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He has recorded 161 points in 283 games with the Blackhawks and Red Wings. His best season came in 2019-20 with the Blackhawks when he registered 30 goals and 16 assists.

Donovan Sebrango, a 21-year-old defenseman prospect, is also part of the trade. He played for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League and tallied seven points in 39 games. Sebrango was a third-round pick by the Red Wings in the 2020 NHL Draft.
