Deion Sanders will not be attending Pac-12 Media Day on Friday in Las Vegas due to foot surgery scheduled for Thursday. The first-year Colorado coach will have a follow-up procedure to ensure he is ready for the start of fall camp. Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will represent Sanders at the event.
Sanders shared the news on Instagram, explaining that he is following his doctor’s recommendations and will be undergoing another procedure. He expressed disappointment at missing the media day but emphasized that it is necessary for his recovery.
This upcoming procedure is the latest in a series of medical treatments for Sanders. He has been dealing with blood-flow problems since his time coaching at Jackson State, where he had two toes amputated in fall 2021. Sanders previously underwent a procedure to fix a dislocated toe.
In June, Sanders had emergency surgery to address blood clots in his legs. Multiple doctors were concerned that if the blood flow issues were not resolved, Sanders may face the possibility of foot amputation.
In a YouTube video earlier this offseason, Sanders discussed the symptoms of his foot condition and expressed his desire to find a solution before the 2023 season begins.
The Colorado Buffaloes, under Sanders’ leadership, will begin their season on September 2 against TCU. Their first home game under Sanders will take place on September 9 against Nebraska.
