Caicedo successfully completed his medical on Monday. The Athletic reports that the deal also includes £15 million in achievable add-ons.
The negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing throughout the summer. However, the transfer took a turn when Brighton accepted a £110 million bid from Liverpool. This move, coupled with Caicedo’s preference for Chelsea, prompted the London club to finalize the deal.
Caicedo is the latest addition to Chelsea’s squad, joining a number of high-priced summer signings. Other notable signings include attackers Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, who were acquired for £52 million and £32 million respectively. Caicedo will partner with Enzo Fernandez in Chelsea’s midfield, who was signed in a previous nine-figure deal with Benfica.

The deal was finalized after Caicedo’s two main suitors, Chelsea and Liverpool, played against each other in their season opener, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Both teams struggled in the match due to the absence of a defensive midfielder. Now, Chelsea will shift their focus to another midfielder, 19-year-old Romeo Lavia of Southampton, for whom both Chelsea and Liverpool are competing.
