Iga Swiatek won her fourth career major title in a thrilling women’s final at the French Open. She defeated Karolina Muchova 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 to claim her third French Open title. Swiatek has now won the first seven Grand Slam final sets she has played in, making her the first player in the Open era to achieve this milestone. This victory solidifies Swiatek’s dominant run in recent seasons.

Swiatek, who was the defending champion and the world No. 1, entered Roland Garros as the odds-on favorite. She had not dropped a single set in the tournament until the second set against Muchova. However, Muchova put up a tough fight and forced Swiatek to battle for the victory.

In the first set, Swiatek took an early lead with a break to go up 3-0. She maintained her advantage and closed out the set comfortably. In the second set, Swiatek started strong again, going up 3-0, but Muchova fought back and managed to win the set in a tiebreaker after a series of breaks of serve.

Muchova continued her momentum in the third set, winning 10 consecutive points. However, Swiatek fought back and leveled the score at 2-2. The third set featured multiple breaks of serve from both players before Swiatek secured a crucial break to go up 5-4 and ultimately win the final set.

Although Swiatek’s winning streak this season hasn’t been as impressive as her 37-match win streak in 2022, she remains the world No. 1 and has now won three titles this year. She holds a significant lead in WTA ranking points over the world No. 2, Arnya Sabalenka.

The next tournaments on the WTA circuit are grass court tune-ups at Eastbourne and Berlin in June, leading up to Wimbledon at the All-England Club in London, which begins on July 3.
