The 2023 Little League World Series has started in Williamsport, Pa. with 20 teams competing for the championship. The event began on Wednesday, Aug. 17 and will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 27.
This year, there are 20 teams participating, with 10 from the United States and 10 from international locations. This is the second season with an expanded field, allowing more teams to compete.
Last season, Hawaii’s Honolulu Little League team won the World Series representing the West Region. They defeated the Caribbean Region, 13-3, in the championship game. This year, El Segundo Little League from California will represent the West Region.
Since 2019, American teams have won the Little League World Series four times in a row. The last international team to win was Japan in 2017, when they defeated the Southwest Region. The United States has the most titles with 38, followed by Chinese Taipei with 17 and Japan with 11.
