Five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston committed to Ohio State on Tuesday. This strengthens Ohio State’s second-ranked 2024 recruiting class in the 247Sports Team Rankings.
Houston, who is ranked as the No. 28 overall player and No. 5 player at his position, chose Ohio State over Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and USC. He is teammates at Buford (Georgia) High School with five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, who is the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class and committed to Georgia earlier this summer.
Ohio State’s 2024 class now has a total of four five-star commitments, including wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham, and defensive lineman Justin Scott. In comparison, Ohio State only managed to land one five-star prospect in its 2023 recruiting class. The Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 4 behind Alabama, Georgia and Texas in the 2023 rankings.
According to Andrew Ivins, the director of scouting for 247Sports, Houston is a high-energy defender with good speed. He has a moldable frame and is believed to be around 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. In his junior year, Houston had 10 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries while primarily playing in a four-point stance in a three-man front. He has the potential to be a difference-maker at the next level.
Ohio State is currently ranked second in the 2024 247Sports Team Rankings, trailing behind Georgia. They are also in the running for four more five-star recruits in DL Aydin Breland, OT Brandon Baker, CB Kobe Black, and DL Dominick McKinley. If they are able to land a majority of these recruits, they could potentially overtake Georgia for the top spot in the rankings.
