Chase Silseth, a right-handed pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, had to be assisted off the field after being hit in the head by a throw during his game against the Mets on Saturday. Here’s a video of the incident:
In the bottom of the fourth inning, with runners on first and second and one out, Silseth threw a called strike to Dan Vogelbach at the plate. At the same time, Jeff McNeil attempted to advance from first base, but got caught in a rundown as Francisco Lindor stayed near second. Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe made an error by throwing the ball behind McNeil to first baseman Trey Cabbage. As Lindor made a move towards third base, Cabbage threw the ball across the diamond. Silseth, who was also moving towards third base, was hit on the back of his head by Cabbage’s throw. He took a few steps and then fell to the ground. Trainers from both teams attended to Silseth, and he was eventually able to walk off the field with assistance from a trainer and the team manager.
Silseth never lost consciousness and was able to speak to trainers after standing up. He was substituted by relief pitcher Aaron Loup.
The 23-year-old Silseth has appeared in seven starts and seven relief appearances for the Angels this season, with an earned run average (ERA) of 4.10.
