Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown made history by becoming the first active NBA player to participate in a BIG3 game. Brown played in the BIG3 All-Star Game in London, representing Team Big and supporting the local charity, London Youth.
Ice Cube, the founder of BIG3, praised Brown on social media, calling him his “hero” and acknowledging his significant statement as the first current NBA player to compete in a BIG3 game. Brown’s participation in the All-Star game was seen as a powerful way to support the league’s success and charitable efforts.
In the exhibition game, Brown contributed nine points, five rebounds, and two assists, but Team Big fell short against Team 3, losing 51-42. After the game, Brown expressed his reasons for participating, highlighting the opportunity to have fun for charity, give back to the community, and show support. He also expressed his gratitude to Ice Cube and the O2 Arena in London.
Brown’s appearance in the BIG3 game took place before the championship game, which featured the Enemies facing off against the Triplets. The Enemies, led by former Celtics guard Jordan Crawford’s 23-point performance, emerged victorious with a score of 50-43, earning them their first championship.
Looking ahead, Brown will shift his focus to the upcoming NBA season with the Celtics, aiming to help his team win an NBA title. While the Celtics faced disappointment in the previous Eastern Conference finals, losing to the No. 8 seed Miami Heat, Brown’s commitment to the team was evident when he signed a five-year supermax extension during the summer, making it the richest contract in NBA history worth up to $304M.
The Celtics, including Brown, will commence their training camp on October 3 and will play their first game against the New York Knicks on October 25.
