Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel has signed an eight-year contract extension worth $6.5 million per season following his impressive performance in the 2022-23 season. The extension will take effect in the 2024-25 season, with Hagel playing out the remaining year of his current contract at $1.5 million. The new deal will keep Hagel with the Lightning until the end of the 2031-32 season.
During his first full season with the Lightning, Hagel played a crucial role and achieved career-high numbers, including 30 goals, 34 assists, and 64 points.
Not only did Hagel excel offensively, but his impact on the ice was also evident in underlying statistics. With him on the ice at five-on-five, the Lightning had a plus-14 goal differential and a 54.0% expected goals share, according to Natural Stat Trick.
This extension ensures that Tampa Bay will have a solid core of players under contract for the foreseeable future, including Nikita Kucherov, Anthony Cirelli, Nick Paul, Mikhail Sergachev, Erik Cernak, and Andrei Vasilevskiy, who are all signed through at least the 2026-27 season.
In the coming months, Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois will focus on securing an extension for team captain Steven Stamkos.
