Liam Coen, the offensive coordinator of Kentucky, announced on social media that he will be back coaching the Wildcats for Saturday night’s home game against Akron. Coen had suffered a medical episode on Sunday and was hospitalized. He expressed his gratitude for the support and prayers he received and said he is doing much better and looking forward to being back on the sideline on Saturday.
No details about the medical episode that Coen experienced have been made public.
This is Coen’s second stint as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator. He previously served as the offensive coordinator in the 2021 season and helped the team succeed with quarterback Will Levis. Coen’s success in 2021 led to him being hired as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. However, he returned to the Kentucky staff in January.
Kentucky has started the 2023 season with a 2-0 record. They scored 44 points in their win against Ball State in Week 1 and then defeated Eastern Kentucky 28-17 in Week 2. The offense has been performing well, averaging 6.79 yards per play. It is currently unknown if Coen will be coaching in the Week 3 matchup against Akron.
