The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive struggles have now spilled over into Pittsburgh Penguins games. During the Penguins’ home-opener on Tuesday night, fans at PPG Paints Arena expressed their frustration with offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
Despite an eventful offseason for the Penguins, including the acquisition of Norris Trophy defenseman Erik Karlsson, fans used the opening night as an opportunity to voice their dissatisfaction with the Steelers’ offense.
In the second period, sections of the arena began chanting “Fire Canada”.

Despite being tied for the AFC North lead, the Steelers’ offense ranks near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories, averaging only 15.8 points per game. This has led some fans to call for a change in offensive strategy under head coach Mike Tomlin.
Last week, Matt Canada acknowledged the offensive struggles and admitted that the lack of production is costing the team games.
“We’ve got to get production,” Canada said, via the Tribune-Review. “It’s a bottom-line business. Players are saying that, that’s great, but ultimately, we’ve got to score more points. We’ve lost two games, one scoring seven, one scoring six. That’s not good enough. We all know that. That’s got to get better.”
Ironically, the Penguins also struggled to generate enough offense in their first game of the season, resulting in a 4-2 defeat against the Chicago Blackhawks.
