During the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, goaltender Tristan Jarry achieved an unprecedented milestone by becoming the first goalie in Penguins history to score a goal.

With just over a minute left in the game, the Lightning were pressing for an equalizing goal when they sent the puck towards Jarry. The swift dump-in landed directly on Jarry’s stick, allowing him to instantly send the puck back down the ice.

Jarry’s shot soared through the air, reaching a peak of 16.4 feet above the ice, and found its way into the empty net at the opposite end of the rink.

Following the game, Jarry detailed the play, stating, “I think it was kind of the perfect scenario. They dumped it right on net, and I didn’t even have to stop it. I just shot it on the fly, and it ended up going in.”

While acknowledging the rarity of his accomplishment, Jarry emphasized the significance of securing a crucial two points for the Penguins in their pursuit of a playoff berth.

“It’s pretty neat, honestly,” Jarry remarked. “It’s something that doesn’t happen very often. There’s very few that have done it. It’s something pretty cool, but honestly the win means more.”

Jarry joined a select group of goaltenders, including Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins last season, Pekka Rinne from the Nashville Predators in 2020, and Mike Smith of the Arizona Coyotes in 2013, as only the fourth goalie in the past decade to score a goal.
