Bryce Harper’s career-long home run drought has finally come to an end. The Philadelphia Phillies player hit a solo home run against San Diego Padres pitcher Ryan Weathers in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, marking the first home run for Harper in 37 games. Harper, a two-time MVP, went through a stretch of 166 plate appearances without hitting a homer.

Here is Harper’s drought-ending home run. He previously hit a home run on May 25.

Despite the lack of home runs, Harper has been performing well since returning from Tommy John surgery on May 2. He has a batting line of .290/.384/.397 with three home runs in 57 games. Although his power may be lacking, his batting average and on-base percentage are consistent with his usual performance.

Prior to the All-Star break, Harper expressed that he is not yet satisfied with his performance. He mentioned that he is not hitting the number of home runs he desires but believes he is having good at-bats and making progress. He acknowledges that there is still a long season ahead.

This 37-game home run drought is the longest in Harper’s career. His previous longest stretch without a home run was 25 games last year while dealing with a broken thumb. Throughout his 12-year career, Harper has had four instances where he went at least 20 games without hitting a home run.

Philadelphia plans to utilize Harper at first base in the near future. Due to his recovery from Tommy John surgery, he is currently on a throwing program and has yet to be cleared to make the necessary throws in the outfield.
